TV Stands

The days of the television being a single appliance are long gone. Nowadays, the TV is just the centre of a collection of equipment like media players, set-top boxes and recorders – not to mention the metres of wiring it takes to connect it all together, power it up and connect it to the internet. Well, Dunelm is here to help you make sense of it all and keep everything looking neat and tidy with our brilliant TV stands.

Most of our TV stands have a top at around 45 cm, which is generally considered the best height for viewing from a sofa. Some are closer to a metre in height however, so make sure you're looking at the one you need.

Also note that there are two main types of TV stand: straight and corner. Straight TV stands are simple rectangular shapes for placing against a wall. However, as most people have their TV pointing into the living room from the corner, the corner TV stand is most popular. It has 45-degree cutaways at the back so it slots neatly in place. Take care to study the dimensions, though – if your TV is in an alcove, especially next to a bay window, some of the larger corner units might stick out. In such cases, you might be better off getting a straight TV stand and angling the TV itself instead.

All our stands come with a hole or gap at the back which is there to feed your wiring through. It all helps to keep everything neat and out of sight. There's usually some storage space, too, which is handy for your remotes, DVDs, Blu-rays and other media, as well as general storage. Many modern media boxes don't need an infra-red line of sight to operate by remote, so you can store it away in one of these sections if you want, although you might have to make modifications for the wiring.

Now it's just down to your personal tastes, and the decor of the room. As you'd expect of Dunelm, we've got the complete range of TV stands and cabinets, so whatever look you have in your living room, there will be a stand to complement it. That means anything from solid wood to glass, for a really smart showroom look. There's even a ladder-type, which acknowledges the fact that both TVs and their connecting devices are mere inches deep nowadays, and that you might not need a traditional TV cabinet at all.
